DARWINISTS ARE TERRIFIED AND BAFFLED BY THE WORLD THAT ARISES IN OUR BRAINS

This was again clearly demonstrated on the program Sansursuz (Uncensored), broadcast on 14 August, 2009. The concept that panicked Darwinists was the “world inside our brains:”

The photon strikes the eye, and an electric signal goes from the eye to the brain. The electric signal departs from the eye and reaches an area the size of a lentil called the sight center. And an image then forms in that lentil-sized area. THERE IS AN EYE that looks at the image that forms there. IT IS “THAT” EYE THAT IS ACTUALLY PERFECT. That eye sees the electricity that reaches it. And with a perception of perfect depth, brightly, vividly, in movement, full color and in three dimensions. Yet that region is pitch black. The places the electric signals arrive at, the sight center, and the interior of the brain are all in darkness. Yet the eye there sees a perfect and crystal clear image, a far better one than that produced by any high-tech television. And it interprets these images in such a way as to feel sorrow, joy, love and liking, or to analyze, remember or learn from them.
There is a miracle going on here.

Atoms that are unable to see cannot combine together, unconsciously and by chance, to produce a visual system that gives a better image then even the most perfect camera and that provides a sharper and more colorful image than those produced by the most highly advanced three-dimensional cinema or television systems.

Unconscious atoms with no ability to hear anything cannot produce a hearing system, as the result of chance, that is far superior to that of the most advanced stereo system, with perfectly sharp and multi-dimensional sounds indistinguishable from the real thing.

Atoms that cannot smell anything cannot produce a system of smell that detects the perfume of a rose under the influence of chance. Unconscious atoms with no sense of hot, cold or hardness cannot produce a sense of touch as the result of chance.

Unconscious atoms unaware of their own existence cannot turn by chance into human beings that enjoy music, know the tastes of all kinds of food, have memories, think and feel, that make plans, relive their memories in their minds, enjoy laughter and happy times and possess hundreds of other such characteristics, or even turn into scientists that investigate the structure of the atoms itself.

The eye that sees the bright, mobile and three dimensional world on the outside in the brain IS THE SOUL. The soul is entirely metaphysical and cannot be explained through any material concept. For that reason, materialists, atheists and Darwinists who seek to account for the existence of the soul and everything else in terms of matter are in a state of utter panic. The soul bestowed on man by Almighty Allah totally demolishes Darwinism and every intellectual system espoused by Darwinists. That is why, as on the program in question, Darwinists are unwilling to discuss such issues and immediately try to gloss over them. One expects them to run away from the issue. Because they will always be defeated in the face of the perfection of the eye that sees inside our brains that Allah has created.

THE DECEIT THAT THE HUMAN ABILITY TO THINK IS THE SAME AS THAT OF OTHER LIVING THINGS

Unable to account for the human ability to think, Celal Sengor responded to a question on that subject with a superficial reply about animals also having the capacity. He claimed that the crow’s ability to extract food from a deep bowl or the way a monkey collects stones to protect itself against attackers is no different to the human ability to reason. But this is of course a huge deception.

    - Human beings are entities aware of their own existence, that are capable of thinking and saying “I exist” and “What am I?” Because human beings have a soul. And every conscious and rational human being is aware that he bears a sublime soul. If someone is able to reason, he realizes that it is the soul bestowed on him by Allah that does all this so long as he rejoices, thinks, decides, judges, is happy or excited, or feels love, suffers, doubts, enjoys the taste of an apple, takes pleasure from music, builds planes or skyscrapers or even studies man himself in the laboratory.
    - Human beings with their souls were not created haphazardly. There is a reason for their presence in the world. They bear the soul of Allah and are tested in this world. They will be held responsible for everything they do and think. Contrary to what Darwinists maintain, there are no random events, chance or purposelessness in their lives. Everything is created by the will of Allah and all these things are a part of the test. In this life that will end with death, only the body will be left behind. The soul, on the other hand, will live forever in the Hereafter, the true life it inhabits.
    - Animals, on the other hand, are not aware of their own existence. They are unconscious entities that cannot reason and are not aware why they exist. Many animals possess very superior characteristics created by Allah. These abilities in animals unaware of their own existence are specially created in order to see Allah’s matchless artistry. When a crow tries to extract food from a bottle or a monkey amasses a pile of stone to protect itself against enemies and survive, they are behaving in a way inspired in them by Allah. But no matter how much one may try, no matter how much time passes, those creatures will never be able to design a plane, perform a chemical experiment, write a book, stand up at a dais and lead a conference or examine their own cells under the microscope in a laboratory.

ALLAH (GOD) BREATHED HIS SPIRIT INTO MAN

After trying to resolve the issue of how red is perceived inside the brain, how the sound of pleasant music is interpreted differently from chewing a steak and why even the most detailed MRI provides no evidence regarding the interpretation mechanism involved, Jeffrey M. Schwartz, a neuroscientist and research professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, goes on to ask the following important question:

...why would studying brain mechanisms, even down to the molecular level, ever provide an answer to those questions?

The answer is this: Because the answer to the interpreting mechanism is not in the brain at all. It is impossible to come by the answers to questions regarding this mechanism by studying human cells, examining neurons or performing research at the molecular level. That is because what causes a person to perceive the outside world is not inside the human body. It is something outside the brain, neurons, cells or electric signals. It is the soul bestowed on us by Almighty Allah.

Reveals Allah in one verse:

… then [He] formed him and breathed His Spirit into him and gave you hearing, sight and hearts. What little thanks you show! (Surat as-Sajda, 9)

People who fail to understand that it is the soul that perceives, and that it is independent of matter, are making a very important mistake: They face the possibility that the images they see exist on a screen in their brains. Yet when we consider that there is a screen in our brains on which the outside world exists, we also have no choice but to admit the existence of a little man watching that screen. And there must be another little man watching the screen in the brain of the first, and so on. But there is no screen and no other little man watching the events on it in the brain. The human brain is pitch black and silent. There is nothing there but neurons made up of proteins and electric signals moving very swiftly back and forth. It is impossible for those electric signals to see a flower, smell it, touch it, delight in it, see a ship sailing in the distance or enjoy the taste of a strawberry--all in a piece of flesh. It is impossible for them to experience a prolonged period of enjoyment of an orchestral symphony. It is obviously not electrical signals that produce such a lively, bustling, brightly colored, vivid, three-dimensional and perfectly sharp world. And there is also no doubt that it is not electric signals that cause one to rejoice or grieve, to feel excitement or concern, to remember and feel happy, or to miss someone and satisfy that longing. Even if the world’s most renowned professors were to work together, as Jeffrey M. Schwartz says, they still would not find this perception mechanism anywhere in the brain.

The self-conscious entity that says “I see” the images and “I hear” the sounds in the brain is the soul given to man by Allah. This is the reality that the materialist mindset is most unwilling of all to see revealed. The soul sees without the need for eyes, touches without the need for hands, hears without the need for ears, smells without the need for a nose and tastes without the need for a mouth. The soul is the only answer to the question of “who does the perceiving?” which scientists have been trying to resolve for years. Allah constantly shows images to the human soul and, day and night, whether in this world or in dreams, creates a whole world for them. Everything in that world has a perfect and flawless appearance. So much so that it is very difficult for us to realize that the sharp image and sensation of depth in front of us consists merely of an illusion and has no connection with the real outside world. This is the flawless, matchless, glorious work of our Almighty Lord, Who has the power to create infinite worlds in an area just a few centimeters in size whenever He chooses.

He is Allah – the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and Earth glorifies Him. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. (Surat al-Hashr, 24)

A flawless image forms in our brains because Allah so wills. There are smells there because He so wills and we listen to and enjoy immaculate music because He so wishes. We also feel and recognize things by touching them because Allah so wills. The food we eat has flavor because that is what Allah wills. A whole world emerges in the human mind from nothing at Allah’s command. Our Lord creates a world from nothing in a person’s mind that belongs to that person alone, that only he can see and recognize. This world is not the outside world. It is impossible to have direct contact with the world outside. It is impossible, unless Allah so wills, for anyone to have direct experience of a world created for someone else. One can only live in and watch a world created for oneself alone by Allah. It is impossible to step outside it. In another verse, Allah reveals:

They will ask you about the Spirit. Say: “The Spirit is one of the commands of my Lord. You have only been given a little knowledge.” (Surat al-Isra’, 85)

THE IMAGES VISUALIZED AND DREAMS

It takes but a moment when our eyes are closed to call to mind an image of the school we attended. An image forms in our brains right away. But our eyes are closed. When we look at a view for a while and then subsequently close our eyes we can again see that image in our minds when we want to recall it. But again our eyes are closed. Although it is not our eyes that are doing the seeing and although there is no image of a school in front of us, this image still exists in our minds in almost the exact same form. The production of an image in the mind despite the lack of an eye to perceive it is evidence that the perceiver is something different than the eye and something not dependent on matter. It is the “soul” created by our Almighty Lord to be independent of matter and bestowed on human beings by Him that does the perceiving.

Dreams are of great importance to a proper understanding of this subject. Events, space, people, feeling and three-dimensionality are all the same in dreams as they are in this world. So much so that it is almost impossible to be convinced that these are not real when one is dreaming. Everywhere one dreams of is very real, people are real, and events take place in such a vivid way that the dreamer feels excitement in the face of them, and when one runs one actually grows out of breath. One can feel fear while dreaming, strive with all one’s might to escape from danger, or feel alarm in the face of the threat concerned. But while all this rushing around is going on for hours, you are actually lying comfortably in bed with your eyes closed. You are in a perfectly secure environment, and there is no-one trying to catch you, no rain falling and no danger confronting you. Furthermore, an event that seems to last for hours actually took place in your dream in a matter of minutes. And most important of all, these events were all created in your mind.

One important point that needs to be stressed with regard to dreaming is this: You do not have any direct experience of any element of the outside world when dreaming. The world you experience at that moment is generally different from the life you regard as real life. The environment you are in may be different, and the people you meet, even your parents, may be different. Your home and your fears may be different. It is impossible for you to actually see anything because your eyes are closed. But even if they were open the place you are in is not the place you see. The smell of grass you know so well is perfectly clear in a dream. But you are actually asleep on the tenth floor of an apartment block. You have no doubt about it when you eat and taste an apple; indeed, what you are eating may sometimes be a peach, but it tastes like an apple. And, what is more, there is nothing odd about that in that world. However, you are not really eating anything at all as you are asleep lying in bed. This is merely something created in your dream.

One may suffer pain in a dream. So much so that if you slip while you are running over grass you see you have cut your knee. You try to staunch the bleeding and feel the pain from your knee with perfect clarity. Yet no such thing has happened as you lie in bed. You feel the pain in the real sense, but no injury has occurred to your body.

But how is it you feel the pain of an injury that does not actually exist in just the same way as in reality? How is it that, although you are fast asleep, you can enjoy the taste of a delicious apple, and how can you feel fear, excitement and worry in order to escape from danger, despite being asleep in bed, perfectly and in a way identical to normal? How is it that, despite being asleep in your bed at home, you can run for hours over boundless expanses of land? And why are those hours in fact only minutes?

If you are not actually in that environment, then what is the power that shows you these things and causes you to feel them as if they were real?

It is of course our Almighty Lord Who causes you to feel these things in that way and Who keeps the soul under His constant supervision. In the same way that Allah (God) creates a perfectly clear and beautiful world in our minds in this world, so He can very definitely create an equally clear and perfect world in our dreams. There is no doubt that this is very easy for Him.

Our Lord has created the same natural causes for the real world and for dreams: electric signals. The things we think we see actually stem from electric signals, as do those in dreams. Although both have the same cause and although both are created in your minds, you still think that dreams are not real, but that this world is. The fact is, however, that they are essentially the same; both are illusions.

Time is different in dreams. And so is space. The laws of physics are sometimes different. But these are the only things that are real for you when you are dreaming. That being the case, since there is no difference between the way you perceive the world you are perceiving now and the world in your dreams, then this world clearly consists of an image created in your mind. The same physical activities take place in the brain whether you envisage something in your mind, whether you experience it in real life or whether you dream it. You generally think that the factor that gives rise to these activities is an external stimulus, such as light rays. But there is actually no light striking the retina, or no thorn pricking your finger, to give rise to images or sensations when you envisage a thing in your mind or when you dream it.

This makes the following fact perfectly obvious: The way this world is created is the same as dreaming. Therefore, the images you see in this world are created as illusions for you, just as in dreams. You watch events arising in your brain in a world also forming in your brain; you laugh at them, enjoy them or feel excitement at them. But Allah creates them all in your mind. If a person loses the five senses he or she possesses, this colorful, vivid, clear and perfect looking world that we are shown will also disappear, even though the outside world continues to exist. It is therefore impossible to maintain that something we see is the same as the original on the outside. It exists only in a world that Allah “creates for us” in our minds. We can never, ever know whether other people can see it or not, or whether we see the same image as the original on the outside.

EVERYTHING WE PERCEIVE WITH OUR FIVE SENSES IS THE INTERPRETATION OF ELECTRIC SIGNALS IN OUR BRAINS

Although some people may realize that images consist of electric signals in the brain, they may also form the impression that the other senses, touch for instance, are different. They may think that when they touch or smell something they are making direct contact with real matter. Again, however, they are actually perceiving nothing more than electric signals in the brain.

When we touch something with our hands, we are not really touching that object at all. A chemical bond is formed between atoms in a constant state of motion. But these atoms never actually “touch” one another. In physical terms, therefore, we have never touched anything we think we have. As a result of this illusory sense of touch, the atoms in our hands vibrate and initiate an electrical current. That current then moves towards the touch center in our brains. It is then “interpreted” when it arrives. And this is a great miracle. In the same way that the visual center interprets an incoming current as a yellow rose, the touch center interprets the signals reaching it as soft, hot or rough. Similar signals head from our mouths to the taste region in the brain and form a sensation of flavor, sweetness or sourness. The signals from the nose reaching the scent detection center in the brain and set up a perception in the brain regarding the aroma of the object in question. Sound from the ears reaches the brain in the form of other electric signals, and we then in some way are convinced that the person calling our names is our mother. We enjoy the tunes set up by electrical signals forwarded to the brain from the ear, and have no doubt that the ringtone is actually coming from the phone.

All this is an extraordinary miracle created by Allah.

But the sound we hear does not actually belong to the phone, and neither does the sound of music come from our stereos. We experience the sound of a telephone, the original of which we can never see, the original of which we can never hear unless Allah so wills. What we see is not the yellow flower on the outside. That flower, its image, its perfume and all its beauty, consists of electric signals reaching our brains. And we have no evidence whether the image of this flower is the same as the real flower on the outside. Peter Russell explains this as follows:

If all that we ever know are the sensory images that appear in our minds, how can we be sure there is a physical reality behind our perceptions? Is it not just an assumption? My answer is: Yes, it is an assumption; nevertheless, it seems a most plausible one.[i]

There is no doubt that it is impossible for us to know whether the images, sounds, smells and tastes that form in our brains actually exist on the outside. On the basis of this, we can be sure of only one thing; there is a world created especially for us in our brains. And we can never know whether other people see this world in the same way we do. We can only see the images, hear the sounds and taste the flavors of a world created especially for us. We can have no direct experience of anything else.

That being the case, we need to ask the following question: can electric signals alone give rise to such a harmonious world?

Of course, not. It is Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, Who creates the world for us in all its reality, clarity and beauty. Allah bestows on us a soul from His own spirit. It is the soul created by Allah that perceives, enjoys and rejoices, and the electric signals are merely an instrument.

ALLAH CREATES OUR WORLD AS IMAGES IN THE BRAIN

Everything we see as matter in fact consists merely of photons for us. Photons are light particles with varying wavelengths. These waves reach us and turn into electrical signals when they strike the retina in our eyes. The electrical signals move along a predetermined path and eventually reach the visual center in the brain. And there they assume meaning in a quite amazing way: We are sure that what we see is really there, and that there really is a television or a skyscraper in front of us.
No matter how convincing the image of a skyscraper may be, what you perceive as matter in fact consists of nothing more than electrical signals. And the image forms in your brain, not in front of you. The real image of the skyscraper outside will never reach you. All you perceive, as electrical signals, is the light waves emitted from it. To put it another way, what you see is nothing more than light waves and electrical signals. For that reason, throughout your life you only experience an illusory image of a skyscraper, never the original of it. Despite being an illusion, however, it still has a perfectly clear and flawless appearance. It is very difficult for you to realize the fact that it consists only of electrical signals. The image is so perfectly created in the brain that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from the original. This is the immaculate artistry of our Almighty Lord.
A miracle is created every day, every moment in the human brain. Although only electrical signals reach the brain, and although the interior of the brain is pitch black and although this region is only a few square centimeters in size, all the mountains, seas, fields, the sky, endless wastes, houses, televisions, people, trees and in short everything we see are all in the brain. Everything there is colored. But there is no color in the brain. Everything there is light and bright, but there is no light in the brain, nor even outside it. Everything there is noisy and accompanied by sound, but the interior of the brain is completely silent. There is a depth to everything there; the stars seem very far away, while a pencil we hold in our hand seems very close. But in fact everything is on the same plane in our brains and at the same distance. The Sun seems to be thousands of kilometers away. But it is actually right next to us, inside our brains. The reason why the Sun exists in our brains is simply and solely electrical signals. A heavenly body we know to be thousands of kilometers across is actually created in a space of just a few square centimeters. And, to remind ourselves, it exists solely as an electrical signal, that we cannot hold in our hands nor even really know exists.
For that reason, the world we see is not the original of matter. We can never have direct experience of the original of matter on the outside. Our world is limited to what we are shown on the screens in our brains. Apart from that, we have no guarantee whether entities really exist or not, just as we have no guarantee whether the world created for us is the same as the real world on the outside.
The world we see is the world that Allah transmits to our souls. There is no matter in that world; no hardness, softness, scent or color. There are only electrical signals. Allah makes electrical signals the causes of the bright and colorful world He shows our souls. And it is the soul He created for human beings that perceives and interprets these images, rejoices, grieves, doubts, feels joy and longing, remembers, loves and feels excitement in that world.

THE ORIGINAL OF THE MATTER CREATED IN THE BRAIN: YOU MUST FIRST READ THIS TO SEE THE ARTISTRY OF ALLAH!

A mighty waterfall tumbling down from on high, the boundless oceans and the glorious, stunning mountains are all matchless works of Allah. The stars, clouds, birds and fish are all His miracles. Most people are in no doubt that a green forest that blossoms once again, grows and flourishes in the spring is one of the beautiful and glorious works of Allah.

Some people, however, regard skyscrapers, airplanes, laboratories and computers rather differently. The fact that these are made and built by human beings deceives them. They imagine that technology, civilization, scientific and technical progress are independent of Allah (Allah forbid) and forget that the human beings who are instrumental in their coming into existence are also created by Him. They fail to think that Allah, Who has made clouds the cause of rain and the Sun the cause of light, has also made man the cause of technology and civilization. They make the error of thinking that human beings have a power independent of Allah (Allah forbid) and that human beings invented the Internet, that human beings cause planes to fly, that human beings invented the tea spoon or biro, that human beings build space craft and that human beings discovered the forces responsible for keeping planes aloft. They imagine that plasma TVs, CD players, carpets, lampshades, cars and the products of advanced technology all appeared as the result of human intelligence and ability.

They make a terrible error in not regarding these as the artistry of Allah, and forget that He created them out of His mercy.

The fact is, however, that all these things, just like the seas, trees, flowers, fruits, the Sun and the boundless mountains, are all works of Allah. Allah in His mercy makes human beings the cause of all these things listed above. Allah has given human beings the intelligence and ability for this. Our Lord inspired them to discover these things. But it is certain that Allah has the power to have created them with no direct cause.

And everything we see is in fact CREATED “SPECIALLY FOR US” AND “INDEPENDENT OF NATURAL CAUSES” as Allah’s sublime artistry.

In order to understand this, we need to know that the matter we see and touch is an image created in our brains, that it is specially created for us, specially and moment by moment, and that we can never have direct experience of the originals on the outside.

LOOKING AT EVENTS FROM THE FUTURE

A believer’s awareness that he is being tested leads him to look at events from the future. But what does “looking at events from the future” actually mean?
However great the troubles and difficulties confronting a person may be, the situation is definitely only temporary. Someone may be falsely accused of a crime and subjected to injustice, for example. Yet there will definitely come a time when the truth emerges. Even if the suffering of a person does not come to an end in this world, those responsible for that injustice will receive due retribution on the Day of Judgement. In the same way, the person who suffered injustice can hope for a splendid reward for his patience on that day. Time passes very quickly and, like everything else, this state of affairs will come to an end in the mere blink of an eye. In addition, the Qur’an reveals that hardship comes with ease for Muslims:

For truly with hardship comes ease; truly with hardship comes ease. (Surat Al-Inshirah, 5-6)

A believer trusts in our Lord’s infinite justice, expects the ease that will follow hardship, and never falls into despair in the face of any situation. He remembers that the difficulties he experiences will re-appear before him as delights in this world and in the next.
A Muslim knows that he is watching the destiny. One delightful aspect of this secret is that he watches everything in spirit of trusting Allah, submission and resignation.
We must not forget that this is a state of mind unique to true believers in God, one that only those who are completely submitted to destiny can fully experience. People who are heedless of religion, on the other hand, fall prey to despair, fear and stress because of their failure to submit to destiny, and imagine that there is no way out for them. Since they have no hopes or expectation for the Hereafter, they are always restless and troubled. The state of mind of such people is described as follows in another verse:
When Allah desires to guide someone, He expands his breast to Islam. When He desires to misguide someone, He makes his breast narrow and constricted as if he were climbing up into the sky. That is how Allah defiles those who do not believe. (Surat al-An‘am, 125)
This troubled state of mind described in the verse is a self-inflicted wound that stems from these people’s failure to submit to the destiny created by God. The fact that God, the Omniscient and Almighty, directs a person’s destiny and rules all things is a great blessing for a believer. However, people whose faith is weak or who have no faith at all are unable to comprehend the value of that blessing. They are therefore unable to resign themselves to destiny and are troubled at every moment of their lives. This condition is actually a spiritual reward for lack of trust in Allah imposed in the life of this world. These people merely wrong themselves.

Allah does not wrong people in any way; rather it is people who wrong themselves. (Surah Yunus, 44)

THE IGNORED SICKNESS: AN UNPREDICTABLE STATE OF MIND

• What is the underlying cause of the way that some people suddenly become infuriated or emotional and start weeping or behave in some unexpected way in the face of day-to-day events?
• Why is it essential to avoid falling prey to this disorder, which mainly damages the victim himself and is generally described as someone “having a hair trigger?”
• What must be done to free oneself from the condition?
Some people live their lives according to rules they themselves have invented. These people can easily make concessions regarding these rules when it comes to their own worldly desires. Because they have no guide who will direct the course of their lives, ensure they maintain a stable character, and whom they have a total belief. For that reason, their characters are prone to sudden variations. Among the distinguishing features of such people are, for instance, their suddenly slamming doors and acting aggressively towards people around them or shouting in a loud voice although they had been sitting perfectly calmly just five minutes ago, or suddenly bursting into tears having just said how happy they were.
The fundamental reason for this behavioural defect that all believers must scrupulously avoid, is that such people fail to frame their behaviour, speech, actions, thoughts and reactions to events in the light of the moral values of the Qur’an.
The Obstacles to a Balanced Nature
I. Following One’s Worldly Desires
In the Qur’an, Almighty God reveals that people have been created with a tendency towards selfish passions. If someone permits his worldly concerns to rule him, then all his behaviour will be shaped by selfish wishes. These selfish desires will prevent him displaying a stable, consisted and balanced nature. As a result of the prompting of worldly concerns he may suddenly become enraged, or emotional, or sulky, or jealous and start taking sudden decisions in the light of these emotions. His character will always come as a surprise, therefore, to those around him. There will be no consistency between one moment and another. His state of mind, thoughts, feeling, decisions and perspectives can change at any moment. Because of his unbalanced and inconsistent behaviour, such a person will always inspire feeling of unease and distrust in those around him.
One often comes across such characters in societies that are far from religious moral values. People with such a character are far removed from the mindset bestowed by Qur’anic moral virtues and therefore permit themselves to be ruled by their own desires. This, in turn, distances them from reason and encourages unbalanced behaviour. In such situations, Muslims’ guide is the Qur’an. In the Qur’an, God warns us that worldly passions will always encourage one to evil and that Shaytan will oblige people to behave inconsistently, irrationally and emotionally, as dictated by their desires. He also imparts the glad tidings that people who adopt the Qur’an as their guide in the face of this, however, and who act according to the stirring of their consciences, will achieve the ideal character and enjoy superiority in both this world and the hereafter.
A believer achieves this strong and superior character by following the path shown by God. Since the Qur’an is his guide, his behaviour and reactions in the face of events are always shaped according to Qur’anic moral values. How he will behave, his perspective on events and the logic he adopts will never come as a surprise to those around him. His mind, conscience, behaviour and speech always reflect the stability required by Qur’anic virtue, and his nature is therefore always to be trusted.
II. Acting Emotionally
Emotionality is not regarded as undesirable in societies oblivious to religious moral values. Indeed, it is generally believed that a certain amount of emotionality in a person’s make-up is an important attribute. According to that way of thinking, the behaviour caused by emotionality is human feelings that need to be let out. For that reason, character defects stemming from emotionality, such as “touchiness, dissatisfaction, sulking, weeping, an introverted state of mind, apathy, jealousy or anger,” are encouraged by suggesting they are “emotions representing human nature.” Nothing could be more wrong, however.
Emotionality that is widespread in societies oblivious to the moral values of the Qur’an lead to people having weak characters. Since people react to events in the light of their own emotions, they tend to act irrationally. They become unable to think logically and accurately or to make sound deductions. And this leads to people being unpredictable and inflicting material and psychological damage on themselves and those around them.
However, since the Qur’an rules the whole of a believer’s life and character, he possesses the most accurate knowledge regarding the promptings of one’s passions and how to combat it. He knows that emotionality clouds one’s reason, prevents one thinking straight and seeing the truth, and also makes one weak and lacking in resistance. He is also aware that the sentimentality also equated with this weak character, grieving, weeping, ranting and raving, anger, jealousy and self-centredness, are all traits that will ill-befit him. That is because all such behaviour must be avoided as it is displeasing to God.
The Solution to an Unpredictable Character is Love of God
Sincere devotion to God, genuine submission, and knowing that everything transpires under His control and that everything is for the best prevent one falling prey to one’s emotions and behaving badly. Because of his powerful love and fear of God, the believer scrupulously avoids all forms of behaviour that might result from emotionality. He aims, with all his behaviour, character and lofty virtues to be a role model for others, as revealed by God in the Qur’an (Surah Furqan, 74). And by God’s leave, this endows him with a strong character that never collapses under any circumstances.
Believers regulate their whole lives according to Qur’anic moral virtues. They know that avoiding the defects of personality prevalent in societies devoid of faith and exhibiting a strong character will serve as a role model for others and behave in complete awareness of that responsibility. As God reveals in the Qur’an in the words “It is the people who are safe-guarded from the avarice of their own selves who are successful” (Surat al-Hashr, 9), they strive to cleanse their desires of evil. God has revealed that in return for that effort believers will enjoy peace, blessings and happiness in this world and the hereafter: “What is with you runs out but what is with Allah goes on for ever. Those who were steadfast will be recompensed according to the best of what they did. Anyone who acts rightly, male or female, being a believer, We will give them a good life and We will recompense them according to the best of what they did.” (Surat an-Nahl, 96-97)
All the negative behaviour manifesting an unpredictable state of mind stem from defects of faith and a failure to fully comprehend certain realities.
People who are prone to enormous distress, who fall prey to weeping or rage or jealousy, or who sulk in silence and become totally introverted are unaware of God’s might, that He has created all things with goodness, wisdom and justice, that He can perform whatever He wishes whenever He wishes, and that He will heed people’s prayers.
All sorrow, anger and jealousy stem from weakness of faith and errors originating from that perspective.

LIVING ONE’S DESTINY IS A SOURCE OF PEACE AND COMFORT FOR BELIEVERS

The way that Muslims encounter various difficulties and troubles in their daily lives is both a test and also a means of happiness in contrast with the life of Paradise they hope to enjoy in the Hereafter. It is a source of pleasure coming from contrasting trouble with ease, comfort and well-being. It is a blessing from the Compassionate, that increases believers’ respect and love for such people in this world, that allows them to take them as role models and that causes them to have a positive influence on others, and that has many benefits and beauties.
The way that a person may sometimes imagine or forget that a trivial seeming matter is outside the destiny, compassion and knowledge of Allah, as a result of the whispering of the satan, is a disease. The believer must be careful to receive treatment for this malady and must avoid falling into the clutches of this terrible disease.
For example, there is wisdom and goodness in all events such as missing a programme one really wanted to watch or forgetting to order something one wanted. Some people can see this in full clarity, while others cannot see it at all, or only very little. One may miss a programme, but one thus gains time for wise and auspicious reflection. That reflection may result in a lifetime strengthening of wisdom. Alternatively, one may recite the names of Allah during that time and thus gain more goodness than one would from the television. When one forgets to buy something to eat that may mean one avoids being made sick by it. Someone with high blood pressure who forgets to buy any cheese will find his blood pressure returning to normal as a result of abstaining from eating it. He benefits by submitting and wins Allah’s approval. In addition, proper resignation to destiny brings the believer peace and love. And if the cheese he would have bought is infected, then he avoids being poisoned by it.
There are a great many similar examples of this in people’s daily lives. It is therefore of great importance to have a sound understanding of this and never forget it for a moment. Everything that befalls one, great or small, is part of one’s destiny. Believers must always be on their guard against the whispering of the satan to the effect that “these have nothing to do with destiny.” Fully understanding this and never forgetting it for a moment, looking for the wisdom and goodness in all events and regarding everything that happens as part of Allah’s wondrous plan is a great blessing both in this world and for the Hereafter. For the believer, this truth leads to reason and free will, peace and comfort.
