THOSE WHO SEEK TO DEPICT MUSLIMS AS SHEDDERS OF BLOOD ARE MISTAKEN; ISLAM IS A RELIGION OF AFFECTION, COMPASSION AND LOVE

In recent times in particular, some Christians have been making a number of unrealistic claims regarding Muslims. These people depict Muslims as bloodthirsty and oppressive individuals, using specific incidents as evidence, in their own eyes at least, even though this is all a very far cry from the true facts. They interpret, in their own eyes, the oppressive system that manifests itself in a number of areas of the world and that various forces unjustly seek to ascribe to Islam, in disfavor of the Islam faith. They try to give a totally different impression of the Islam revealed in the Qur’an, citing various wars that took place out of necessity in the past, in which Muslims were obliged to defend themselves. This is a grave and groundless calumny. The people in question are unacquainted with Islam, are unaware of the true face of those who perpetrate cruelty in the name of Islam and are unable to evaluate the state of affairs in question in a healthy and rational manner.

The people who make this claim imagine that it is genuine Muslims who abide by the Qur’an that spread terror in the name of Islam. The fact is, however, that they have nothing to do with the Qur’an or Islam. The great majority of the well-known terrorist leaders today are intelligence agents who have been trained for purposes of provocation. These are members of well-known intelligence agencies in America and Europe and receive their instructions directly from those intelligence organizations. All these people have received a Darwinist and materialist education. They are people who are unable to properly appreciate Allah, who fail to live by the true Islamic moral values commanded by Him, who live far removed from the fine, warm and loving moral values of our Prophet (saas) and have fallen under Darwinist indoctrination. They are people who have agreed on the errors of Darwinism, that conflict is the only road to progress and that violence and oppression are essential components of life. The fact they may appear to be Muslims, belong to any Muslim country or that their identity documents state they are Muslims does not alter that fact. These people live on an entirely Darwinist world view. This is how they evaluate the people around them: according to the errors they have accepted “human beings are slightly more developed animals; they have no souls personal identities or responsibilities. In any animal community, the weak must be weeded out and eliminated.”

The terrorist leaders in question are actually people raised to be “spoiled and faddish” in a manner far removed from Islamic moral values in America and various European countries, who are always in the night clubs, have an atheist mindset and have embraced the negative and degenerate aspects of Western culture. It needs to be stated here that one may have led all kinds of different lifestyles before beginning to live by the moral values of the religion, and that is not something to be criticized. One may hope for Allah’s forgiveness for these errors if one genuinely repents and turns to belief in Him. But it is different with the people in question. When the time comes for these people to go to work, they grow beards and start work looking like Ahl al-Sunnah (those Muslims who believe and live according to the Qur’an). They receive their orders from the aforesaid intelligence agencies under masonic control and unhesitatingly carry out the requisite actions. They have nothing to do with Islam. Their religion is not Islam, but Darwinism, materialism.

It is impossible for sincere Ahl al-Sunnah (Muslims who fully abide by the Qur’an) to support and be a part of such a repressive system that exists in opposition to the Qur’an. The people who carry out this oppression in the world are the followers of Ibni Miskeveyh, the Darwinists, materialists, socialist sympathizers and admirers of Stalin, Che, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler and Mao of this world. They are people who foolishly attempt to apply the aberrant ideas of bloody materialists, communists and fascists in the name of Islam, and who think in a way diametrically opposed to the moral values of the religion.

That is how this tyrannic system that certain circles unjustly try to impute to Islam works. Some Muslims may claim that this tyrannic system carried out in the name of Islam was never actually a reality and seek to deny it completely. But the correct thing is not to deny these actions, but rather for them to be described as the actions of mason-supported atheist intelligence agents in order, in their own eyes, to neutralize Islam across the world (surely Islam is beyond that), and to make it clear that such actions are very definitely forbidden in Islam .

In making these allegations against Muslims, the Christians in question ignore one very important point. As is known in history the USA caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people by dropping atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were also Muslims, Christians and Jews among those people. And children, and old people, and innocent men and women. But the Islamic world never sought to lay the blame for this action perpetrated by the U.S. government on Christianity. In the same way, thousands of Muslims were barbarically slaughtered during the attacks which were openly called the Crusades, and even Christians belonging to other sects were tortured to death. And mosques were pillaged as well as the churches. The blood that has recently been shed in Iraq, Afghanistan and other Muslim countries was Muslim blood. But Muslims have never used this as grounds for saying that people who live by the Gospel are killers. Any sane person can see that irreligion always reigns anywhere in which oppression is taking place. Indeed, rational Muslims who abide by the Qur’an and believe in Allah never hold Christians responsible for the massacres in question. That is not something that anyone who genuinely believes in Allah could do.

It is now time for those Christians who make the unpleasant allegations concerning Muslims in question to abandon these erroneous ideas and habits. Ignorance generally plays a large role in these claims. That is why our Christian brothers must read the Qur’an with an unbiased eye, study the life of our Prophet (saas) and consider the works, lives, ideas and activities of pure believers who live by the moral values of Islam. It is clear that there is no room for violence in Islam. According to the Qur’an, war is only possible for defensive purposes, when property, lives or virtue are in danger. But even then, Muslims never go to excess, and have a responsibility to treat the captives they take kindly, even give their prisoners food while they themselves go hungry, to establish peace without delay and to protect civilians and the innocent. It is clear from the life our Prophet (saas) the kind of behavior in this regard that Islam demands. Throughout the 13 years they lived in Mecca our Prophet (saas) and the Companions were subjected to terrible duress, attacks and slanders; they were forced to leave their homes and threatened with death. But they never resorted to violence despite all this aggression and oppression. When the oppression in Mecca increased, they migrated to Medina, and during the Medina period they only engaged in wars that were unavoidable and for defensive purposes. For example, the Battle of Bedir began when the Meccan pagans gathered their armies and attacked the Muslims, intending to martyr them. At Hendek the Muslim erected obstacles around the city in order to protect themselves, and the fighting was purely defensive. In short, the wars in the past were all unavoidable and defensive, the result of direct and ferocious attacks by pagans. None was an offensive war.

Someone who sees and grasps the depth of the Qur’an can also easily see that there is nothing but forgiveness in it. The Qur’an says that Muslims must not go to extremes in war, and that they must stop fighting when the community they are at war with does so:

Fight in the Way of Allah against those who fight you, but do not go beyond the limits. Allah does not love those who go beyond the limits. (Surat al-Baqara, 190)

But if they cease, Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat al-Baqara, 192)

The Qur’an also recommends that prisoners of war be forgiven and freed. Allah tells us in the Qur’an that is it better to forgive people, even if murder has been committed. Muslims’ responsibility, according to the Qur’an, is always to do what is best for Allah’s approval. Since Allah regards forgiveness as best, even in the case of murder, that is what Muslims need to do. Islam is a religion of affection, compassion, peace and love. Those who seek to give a different impression of Islam should abandon that behavior forthwith.

(From Mr. Adnan Oktar's live interview on Kanal 9 TV and Kral Karadeniz TV, January 9th, 2009)

Presenter: A few days ago 6 Coptic Christians were killed in Egypt in a drive-by shooting while leaving the church. All the media in the West started to cover this story in a negative way since the incident took place in a Muslim country. The Egyptian government does not make a declaration about the issue. What do you think about this subject?

Adnan Oktar: Recently some of our Christian friends, brothers are keen to show Muslims in the history and also today as blood shedders, cruel people who cause trouble, who flout the laws, rights and democracy. They are giving examples from the wars in history. If we were to give examples from the wars in the past—especially our American Protestant brothers, Evangelicals speak so—they murdered tens of thousands of people in Hiroshima in an instant. They killed tens of thousands of people in Nagasaki in an instant. There were also Muslims, Christians there. People from all religions. So in accordance which law was this carried out? Right? They shed blood in numerous countries. They shed blood in Afghanistan and Iraq. With which law were those done? Right?

No Muslim interpreted these incidents as; “This is how those abiding by the Gospel are, they are blood shedders.” We said, “This is the spirit of freemasonry, a requisite of being a mason. Those disbelievers who are neither Muslims nor Christians committed it.” In no way did we attribute it to Christianity. Let me correct the word “attribute it”, may Allah forgive me, let me say, “We did not hold Christianity responsible for it.” Consequently, it would be erroneous for our Christian friends to hold Islam responsible when an incident happens; they have to abandon that habit.

Alright, there is war in the Qur’an, but it is as a self defense, when you, your possessions, security and honor is under attack. That is to say, someone has entered one’s house, there is a raid with weapons, rifles. They had knocked the glasses-frames down and fired bullets. What can a man do in such case? Shall he bring them into court? What should he do? If he attempted to escape, he would fail. Right? What should be the action? To save one’s life, defending one’s self. There are things to do while defending one’s self; for instance, people first open fire to the air, they threaten, open fire to the air, if these measures prove to be ineffective, they try to stop the perpetrator by injuring him but in a way not to cause suffering or killing him. This is self-defense. Is there any other way of doing it? Is there any other way in the case of a sudden attack? Since he can not escape. So what is to blame or to see as a fault here?

In those periods, Muslims were under enormous pressure, under great cruelty. They were being put in pits and burnt with petrol. What should be done? What should he do? There is a mid-night raid. They come with swords, maces and spears. Were they to say ; “Welcome, let us serve you some tea? ” What should they tell? Of course they defend themselves. Meanwhile, there may be loss of lives during this defense. This is not something abnormal because the other party has already come to take your life. It is very difficult to defend oneself without harming the other side at that moment, during a mass attack. You can not say, “Let me just make him faint and deactivate him.” In the conditions of the time, there wasn’t a mean to knock someone out anyway. What can they do? Consequently, it is very erroneous to blame and criticize Muslims. They should criticize themselves. There is not the slightest error in what is done in the time of our Prophet (pbuh). None of them are wars of attack.
Oktar Babuna: As you know better insha’Allah, there is also a disproportion in the numbers [of the armies].

Adnan Oktar: And everything is aimed at forgiving. For instance All-Mighty Allah says, “but do not go beyond the limits”, “if they stop, you also stop”, “release the captives, behave well to the captives.” What a perfect explanation. What a humanistic interpretation. In case of a murder, for instance, notice that this is a murder, Allah says that there is the right for retaliation. Normally the penalty for murder is execution. However Allah says, “It is more auspicious for you if you forgive”. Since a Muslim would always choose to forgive, which is more auspicious, so what? Don’t we see here the highest form of compassion, love and mercy? What is the meaning of forgiving an enormous cruelty such as murder? Allah relates, “It is more auspicious for you if you forgive.” Consequently Islam is a religion of love, mercy and compassion. But this also holds true for Gospel and Torah. Even in its distorted form, it has preserved these beautiful features.

Consequently they will abandon trying to provoke Muslims, murdering, acting despotically and attributing an incident perpetrated by a few psychopaths to Muslims. This is very erroneous.

Besides when we look at the murderers, we see that they were educated either in Britain or America and undergone Darwinist and materialist education. Someone with a sufistic manner, someone sensible, or let us think about a follower of Risale-i Nur, has anyone seen a follower of Risale-i Nur whose name has been involved in a murder in any corner of the world?

Oktar Babuna : No one has seen, insha’Allah.

Adnan Oktar: Let alone murder, has anyone seen such a person injuring someone? There are millions of followers of Risale-i Nur, and they, in no way, commit it. For instance a Sufi, a member of a religious order; there are, for instance, Shazinis and Nakhshibendis abroad. Do we ever see them committing such an act? Or a Fiqh scholar, a scholar who has undergone an Ahl al-Sunnah education. Have we ever seen such a scholar committing such an act? In no way. Who are the people that we see committing such acts? Those followers of Ibn Miskhawayh, those Darwinists, materialists, advocates of evolution who have sympathy for socialism, admirers of Che, Ho Shi Minh, those trying to reconcile the views of Lenin with Islam, those people suffering from inferiority complex. Consequently they need to discriminate between them. We mean the genuine Muslims. A genuine Muslim is always full of compassion, mercy and love.

(From Mr. Adnan Oktar’s live interview on Kral Karadeniz and Kanal 9 on 10.01.2009)

THE MINDSET THAT SEEKS TO ASCRIBE TERRORISM TO ISLAM IS THE DARWINIST MINDSET THAT REPRESENTS THE TRUE SOURCE OF TERRORISM

All the terrorist activities across the world that are attempted to be equated with Islam, including the recent slaughter on a military base in America, are the products of the Darwinist, Leninist, Stalinist and Marxist mindset. Those who perpetrate such massacres have absolutely nothing to do with Islam. These people have received a Darwinist and Marxist education in Europe or America and are rooted in Leninism and Stalinism. Since conflict represents the basis of the philosophy in which someone with a Marxist, Leninist and Darwinist mindset believes, since they regard the people killed as mere animals and also believe that these need to be eliminated according to natural selection, it is perfectly normal for those with such a mindset to carry out such massacres.

Those who seek to ascribe such massacres to Islam are the heretical masonic groupings that wish to cause divisions between Muslims and Christians in particular and seek to weaken the truly devout and give rise to oppression, conflict and war across the globe. Freemasons, representatives of the systems of the antichrist (dajjal), seek to totally misrepresent Islam, a religion of peace and love, and thus ensure that people hold prejudiced views of it. The fact is, however, that unjustified killing is a sin in Islam. Our Lord makes this absolutely clear in the Qur’an:

So We decreed for the tribe of Israel that if someone kills another person – unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the Earth – it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind. Our messengers came to them with clear signs but even after that many of them committed outrages in the Earth. (Surat Al-Ma’ida, 32)

Those who do not call on any other deity together with Allah and do not kill anyone Allah has made inviolate, except with the right to do so, and do not fornicate; anyone who does that will receive an evil punishment. (Surat al-Furqan, 68)

Allah reveals that it is as sinful to kill one person as to kill all mankind. There is no question of someone who maintains the bounds set by Allah of harming a single person, let alone slaughtering thousands of innocent individuals.

In addition, under Islam nobody can arbitrarily distinguish between those who do “right” or “wrong.” Because this distinction is clearly set out by way of the Qur’an. As revealed in the Qur’an, there can be no aggression in Islam, only self-defense. A Muslim can only resist aggression for purposes of defense, in the event of a threat to himself or those around him. According to Islam, only under such circumstances do people have a “right to attack” the other side, and then for purely defensive purposes. But if the other side ceases its aggression, then they must also put a stop to their defensive actions. Allah makes this a definitive pronouncement in the Qur’an:

“Fight in the Way of Allah against those who fight you, but do not go beyond the limits. Allah does not love those who go beyond the limits.

… Do not fight them in the Masjid al-Haram until they fight you there. But if they do fight you, then kill them. That is how the kuffar should be repaid. But if they cease, Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat al-Baqara, 190-192)

Those who imagine they can escape punishment by fleeing from justice in this world will never be able to avoid having to account for themselves after death, in the presence of Allah, in the Hereafter. Therefore, true Muslims who know that they will have to account for their actions once they are dead are punctilious when it comes to maintaining the bounds set by Allah. It is impossible for a genuine, devout Muslim to harm people or perpetrate mass slaughter, things made sinful by Allah, or to harm them in any way by turning his back on such virtues as love, affection and forgiveness, which constitute the very essence of Islam. The mindset that seeks to ascribe terrorist attacks to Islam is the Darwinist, Marxist, materialist mindset that wishes to lead the world to irreligion. Freemasonry, the system of the antichrist, has undertaken to defend this mindset. But, by the leave of Allah, this cunning strategy of the antichrist has been exposed and defeated in recent times when the coming of the Prophet Jesus (as) and Hazrat Mahdi (as) is imminent. Freemasonry, the system of the antichrist, is no longer able to deceive people as it used to, and all this heretical mindset’s vile plots against Islam and true believer end in failure.

From Adnan Oktar’s interview dated 6 November, 2009:

ADNAN OKTAR: There is no terror in Islam, just people of Muslim origins who have been brought up as Darwinist materialists and terrorists. For example, someone may have Turkish origins and his ID card may describe him as Turkish, yet he may still be an enemy of Turkishness. Like the alleged organization Ergenekon organization. But his ID card says he is a Turk. It may say he is a Muslim, though that does not necessarily make him one. In order to be a Muslim he must be affectionate, compassionate, forgiving, tolerant and humane. Tolerance does not mean ignoring the offenses committed by someone, by the way, but rather forgiving such offenses. Therefore, if you look at all the people responsible for what is known as Islamic terror, all the terrorist attacks in the world, you will see that they have all received a Darwinist education. They have all adopted a Darwinist, materialist and Marxist line. They are all great admirers of Che or of Ho Chi Minh. In other words, they are all people who have been raised hand in glove with terrorism. As a result, Palestine and Syria have only just been freed from communist thinking. Iraq has only just been freed from it. They all used to hold Stalinist, terrorist ideas. The old tools are therefore still being used today. Terrorists are people produced by those old tools.

ADNAN OKTAR: Look, the leaders of the people who perpetrate actions of this kind have all been brought up in Europe or America. They have all gone through an intensively Darwinist education. They have all adopted Marxist, Leninist and Stalinist thinking and strive to ascribe these things to Islam. They even called such people green communists at one time, Muslims with a great admiration for communism. But Islam is a pure faith. It is an unsullied faith, and nothing can subsequently be added to it. Whatever exists in Islam already does so, and nothing can be added on afterwards.

ADNAN OKTAR: The aim behind these Marxists’ terror is to create a division between Muslims and Christians and set them against one another, and to install a masonic, Marxist system to fill that gap. Because the idea of thesis, antithesis and synthesis is one espoused by both Marx and Darwin. Darwin espoused the dialectic of living things. One lot espoused the dialectic of history. And others, the dialectic of nature. Put the three together and you have Marxist dialectics. The idea of conflict is inherent in that, the idea that people can only attain perfection through conflict. Conflict is an essential attribute of Marxists. They say that even if you have Marxism, its antithesis will still arise, and a new synthesis, that it will give rise to its own antithesis. They say that conflict is a feature of the permanent world. Terror is essential for that to be made a reality. This is a most devilish plan. A Marxist, masonic plan that would be very successful were it really put into action. But I have thwarted all these plans. They are doing what Darwinist, Marxist theory requires. But by demolishing Darwinism and showing people that it is all a plot, I am thwarting the attempt to set Muslims and Christians against one another.

ADNAN OKTAR: While being injected with Marxism, nobody will ever become a Marxist if they come right out and say, “You will just go out and kill people.” Of course it will be given a humane appearance. The mask must be one that has a very positive impact on the human soul and character. In that event, people may then look favorably on it. But there is also the theory of conflict in Marxism. What does the theory of conflict mean? What does the constant operation of theses and antithesis mean? It means there will be constant bloodshed. They talk about the dictatorship of the proletariat, and that means blood, tears and suffering. But they say there will always be counter-theses to this. And the antithesis to that is fascism. They speak of fascism conflicting with communism and of there being a new synthesis emerging from this, and that a new antithesis to that will then emerge. In other words, they refer to endless disorder and anarchy. They say this a global law and base it on Darwin’s theory of evolution. The dialectic of nature, of living things, of history. Someone who believes that has no other option that to be a Marxist, and they are very insincere. Someone who is a Darwinist has no option other than to be a Marxist. If the dialectic of living things is true, then according to their belief the dialectic of nature and history is also true. And there is also dialectical philosophy. People who believe in dialectical philosophy must also sign up to conflict. In other words, they must sign up to thesis and antithesis. They must therefore also accept terror and anarchy. That is why Lenin told people to “bomb banks, kill the police, kill soldiers and rob banks.” That is why he wanted it. He was saying that people need to engage in such a struggle in order to attain the thesis, antithesis and synthesis.

ADNAN OKTAR: This is a devilish ruse. There can be no terror in the name of Islam. Because killing is forbidden in Islam. There is no compulsion in the religion. That is also forbidden. Compulsion is forbidden. I am a mujahid, waging jihad. The word jihad comes from the word ‘jehd,’ meaning to strive. What they are doing is slaughter. The Qur’an does not talk of slaughter. The Qur’an refers to ‘jehd,’ the jihad, spreading the religion and telling people about it. Our Prophet (saas) described the religion by proving it with love, affection and compassion. The religion is made available, and people either sign up to it or not. If you impose it on people then the result is hypocrisy. Do you know what hypocrisy means? You give rise to the most vile people in the world. Hypocrisy is many, many times worse than disbelief.

PRESENTER: Is killing on behalf of the religion legitimate?

ADNAN OKTAR: You can defend yourself for the sake of the religion. If they come to your home and try to kill you and your children. That is self-defense. Of course you will defend yourself in that case. But Allah tells us to go no further. He tells us to respond proportionately and then stop. He tells us to stop when they do. He tells us to stop when they halt their attack. He tells us to go no further.

TERROR HAS BY NO MEANS PLACE IN ALL THREE DIVINE RELIGIONS (Live interview with Mr. Oktar by KBYR Radio, Alaska, 19 October, 2009)

PRESENTER: We’re gonna get right to the conversation today. Mr. Oktar is calling in all the way from Istanbul, Turkey. He’s born in February 1956. … He is a prominent advocate of Islamic creationism in the creation-evolution debate. And more particularly, he supports old-earth creationism. He is against (atheist) Zionism and freemasonry. And sees them as very relevant movements. He denounces anti-Semitism and terrorism, which he says are products of Darwinism. Oktar had defended his views by litigation. He is responsible of blocking of numerous high profile websites in Turkey.
Mr. Oktar, welcome to the show, sir.

ADNAN OKTAR: Thank you very much. We welcome you also.

PRESENTER: OK, thank you so much. I wanted to give Mr. Oktar an opportunity to explain the listeners where his ideas come from, who he is and what he is trying to accomplish.

ADNAN OKTAR: Being a Muslim, I, of course, live to earn Allah’s consent, His pleasure. This is my objective. Yet I want [all the people] in the world to become brothers, and Jews, Christians, Muslims to live together as brothers and friends. Especially I do not want any tension to appear between Jews and Muslims. This also applies to Christians and Muslims. I want [all the people] in the world to live in bliss and brotherhood.

PRESENTER: Mr. Oktar, how can that happen, when in my opinion, Palestinians and these Muslim terrorists continue to attack the Jewish settlements?

ADNAN OKTAR: There is no cruelty in Islam. It is unlawful to attack women, innocent people. When we consider people who are told to be terrorists, we see that they are people who have undergone Darwinist, materialist education in UK, Europe, America. Consequently there is not a concept of cruelty in the Qur’an; there is only peace and brotherhood. This is also the same in the Torah and the Gospels. Torah also advocates love, peace and brotherhood. The Gospels also advocates brotherhood. Terror has by no means any place in all the three religions. Those who advocate terror are the ones who have undergone Darwinist education.

PRESENTER: Has the terrorists, has radical Islam hijacked the Muslim religion and using that as an excuse to attack the West?

ADNAN OKTAR: Those who direct them are freemasons. World freemasonry directs it. Everywhere in the world, freemasonry directs members of various religions and people of different opinions. In Turkey there is the alleged Ergenekon terror organization, for instance. It is also under the sway of freemasonry. There is freemasonry underneath all sorts of terrorist movements. While selecting them they are selected among Darwinist, materialist people. Some are called Muslims, some are called Christians or Jews. Yet, these are all the people rooted in atheist thinking, Darwinist mentality. These people have no love for human beings.

PRESENTER: How does he see the future in Middle East? Will the United States? Let me simplify this question. How does Mr. Adnan Oktar see the United States in Iraq, in Afghanistan? Does he see that as a positive thing or a negative issue?

ADNAN OKTAR: Our Prophet (saas) told that in the End Times Iraq and Afghanistan would be invaded. These are the portents of Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) appearance. Nothing have happened outside All-Mighty Allah’s order. There is goodness and wisdom in all of them. The awaited Mahdi (as) will direct people to brotherhood, peace and love. Hazrat Mahdi (as) also appeared. Hadith provides a detailed account of the invasion of Afghanistan, elimination of Iraq’s currency, the restructuring of Iraq following its division into three and even the disappearance of the Iraqi army before Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) appearance. These are destined to be so; they are the portents of Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) coming and they all have all taken place.

PRESENTER: Mr. Oktar is a Turkish writer in our first Middle East correspondent on KBYR. Thank you very much for calling us today. We really appreciate Mr Oktar. Thank you for your work over there.

ADNAN OKTAR: I also thank you.

PRESENTER: Thank you, bye bye.

SPILLING BLOOD IS UNLAWFUL, USING ATOM BOMB IS UNLAWFUL, AND IRAN WILL NOT ATTACK ANYONE (From Cay TV interview, October 1st 2009)

… I really did say such a thing, and I have just said it now, and things have been happening just as I said. They want us to go to war with Iran, and that is new cunning. They have been prowling around Iran. They thought it would be better to have Turkey go to war with them than to waste their own time and money on the task, to set two Muslim sides against one another and thus to avoid any costs themselves. And both sides would become weak. They cunningly calculated that this would make their job even easier.

But we will not fall for that. Iran is our friend and brother. We love Iran. Iran is full of passionate admirers of Hazrat Mahdi (as). Because a great many of them are Turks. Almost half of Iran is Turkish. Even more than half. For example, Ayatollah Shariat Medari is Turkish. Many of their senior commanders are Turkish. Many Iranian troops are Turkish. This plan is a very amateurish one lacking in good conscience. Anyone applauding it is acting disgracefully. What we will do is to strive shoulder to shoulder with Iran against disbelief and madness. Insha’Allah. By Allah’s leave, we will not permit a hair on Iran’s head to be harmed. That is out of the question. They are very dear to us. Theirs is a giant country from end to end, a great country. Its past goes back to the furthest depths of history. Theirs is a noble state, a noble nation. Made up of immaculate Muslims. Such a plan is highly dangerous.

But I have spoken again today. I sent my greetings to President Ahmadinejad. I sent him news. You will see him give excellent addresses, insha’Allah. He will thwart this plan and make very sincere and excellent speeches, by Allah’s leave. He is already doing this, but he will do it even more. For example, he said they would obliterate Israel. All tight, but he corrected himself. Because the destruction of Israel (referring to ateist Zionist ideology) is to be done with ideas, with love, affection, compassion and friendship, not with bombs, blood and guns. That is how you will destroy it.

We have immaculate Jewish brothers there. And Christian brothers and Muslim brothers. Why should those places, holy places, be destroyed? There is the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque. There are the tombs of the prophets. These are places that must be scrupulously protected. There are lovely Jewish children with their long ringlets there and immaculate Palestinian youngsters. A child could tell you that no such thing will happen there. They will be scrupulously protected and watched over.

Pointing to Iran all the time is a ruse. Saying it will bomb and attack others. No such thing will happen. He made a slip of the tongue but then corrected it, and will correct it still further. I requested him, insha’Allah. People will see this in the coming days, insha’Allah. That is why Iran is a source of love, affection and compassion and has always adopted a defensive policy to date. Iran will not attack anyone. Iraq attacked it, and they then defended themselves. Iran is not a country with a thirst for war. Spilling blood is a sin. Using the atom bomb is a sin in Shiite belief, Sunni belief and Jaferite belief. They will never do such a thing. But if it is going to make use of nuclear energy, let it. So what? All countries use nuclear energy. Are there any countries that do not use nuclear energy? Let them use it, too, insha’Allah.

If it is to make an atom bomb, Israel already has atom bomb. India and Pakistan and Russia all have atom bomb. America has a mass of nuclear weapons. France has them. Italy has the atom bomb. The problem is one of eliminating all those nuclear weapons. In the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as) there will be no hydrogen bombs or atom bombs. They will all be eliminated and it will be an age of total peace and brotherhood. Only plastic guns might be left around for children to play with. There will be no need even for them. They get children thinking of bad things. By Allah’s leave there will not even be any cap guns left. We used to have plastic water pistols when we were children that we filled up and squirted one another with. There will not even be any need for water pistols. Because they remind one of weapons and will also be eliminated. Insha’Allah. By Allah’s leave.

MUSLIM SOLIDARITY THAT GROWS EVEN STRONGER IN TIMES OF CRISIS

Throughout the course of history, at times when there have been no prophets, believers possessed of a deep and genuine faith have assumed the task of preaching the virtues of the faith. However, these worthy people have always been subjected to obstacles, slanders, and both verbal and physical attacks from those who regard religious moral values as a threat to the anti-religious and oppressive system set up by them.
However, today as in the past, those who organise evil and attempt to wreck the solidarity among believers ignore one very important truth:
The solidarity among Muslims, who live to obtain Allah’s approval, can never be impaired by non-believers in times of crisis. On the contrary, by the will of Allah, that solidarity grows even stronger at such times.
Believers are virtuous people who fear and stand in awe of Allah, who always treat others with a friendly toleration, who inspire feelings of peace, joy and security, who are always just and who avoid all sinful actions. Since they have no worldly ambitions, they never seek to gain anything from anyone. On the contrary, they are loyal, modest and hold firm convictions. Yet despite these excellent traits, throughout their struggle to spread religious moral values they encounter fierce hostility and attacks from various individuals. The underlying cause of the enmity these people feel towards believers is their hostility towards Allah and religious moral values (Allah is beyond that). As a result of this hostility, they try to stop believers preaching the word, lay snares for and plot against believers, and try to intimidate them by mocking and slandering them. Allah describes this hostility of those who do not believe, which has never once in the course of history ever borne any fruit, as follows in a verse: “If they come upon you, they will be your enemies and stretch out their hands and tongues against you with evil intent, and they would dearly love you to become unbelievers.” (Surat al-Mumtahana, 2)
However, these people who wish to prevent the spread of religious moral values and to stop others living by them, ignore one highly significant point: the source of the solidarity that permits a genuine friendship and alliance among Muslims is their sincere faith. Believers love one another with a pure intent and for the sake of Allah alone, and no worldly interests are involved. They are one another’s friends for the sake of Allah. Through that friendship, they establish the basis of a powerful alliance. That alliance grows even stronger in times of difficulty, something that puzzles unbelievers. It is impossible, by the will of Allah, for this bond, based on love and fear of Him, to be weakened in any way. Almighty Allah has described believers as acting in close uniformity with one another, like the walls of a building: “Allah loves those who fight in His Way in ranks like well-built walls.” (Surat as-Saff, 4)
The Secret of the Solidarity among Believers That Grows Stronger in Times of Crisis
1. They Have a Powerful Love of Allah
There are various reasons why believers enjoy such a powerful solidarity and are so loyal and resigned. One of the most important of these is their profound love of Allah.
As Allah tells us in the verse: “Say: ‘Praise be to Allah. He will show you His Signs and you will recognise them. Your Lord is not unaware of what you do’.” (Surat Naml, 93) In order to strengthen the hearts of believers and to heighten their love of and devotion to Him, Allah has promised to show that everything that arises around them and in their earthly desires if “true.”
In the light of that verse, believers act in the knowledge that everything that happens to them during their lives takes place as a result of this promise of Allah. Their belief in and love of Allah keep growing, and hence also their submission and loyalty to Him. They know that Allah is the constant friend and helpmate of believers and that He will answer all their prayers, and they feel a great love for Him. They are patient and resigned in the face of difficulties in order to earn Allah’s approval, and they take Him as their guardian and shelter behind Him. They do not allow they difficulties they encounter in preaching the moral virtues commanded by Allah to impede their intellectual struggle and, contrary to what those who attempt to hinder the spread of religious moral values may think, all events that might seem on the surface to be unfortunate in fact strengthen the solidarity among them even further. This is one of the proofs that believers have a genuine love of and devotion to Allah. In the Qur’an, Allah tells us that believers have a deep sense of devotion and submission: “It is for the poor of the immigrants who were driven from their homes and wealth desiring the favour and the pleasure of Allah and supporting Allah and His Messenger. Such people are the truly sincere.” (Surat al-Hashr, 8)
2. They Are Sincere in Their Fear of Allah
Love of Allah, solidarity and the growth thereof, is a most important trait, but one that is insufficient by itself. Fear of Allah is also essential. Because fear of Allah ensures that the individual will be careful to observe what He has commanded and forbidden and that he will avoid any behaviour that He will find displeasing, and also enables him to be stronger and more determined in the face of Shaytan and his worldly desires. That is the basis of solidarity. Each one of the believers who make up that alliance possesses a profound fear of Allah. They unconditionally submit to the words of the Qur’an. They seek no other approval than that of Allah, and fear nobody but Him. Because they maintain their purity they enjoy Allah’s support and, in the light of Allah’s title of Aziz (He who cannot be defeated, the victorious) are always successful in all they undertake. Since they are aware of the secret in the verse “…then you should not fear them but rather fear Me – and so that I can complete My blessing to you so that hopefully you will be guided” (Surat al-Baqara, 150), they possess an extraordinary power and resistance that nobody can tear apart, and nobody can cause them to doubt or turn against one another.
3. They Know That Evil Will Spread If They Lack Solidarity
The importance of solidarity in religious moral values is emphasised in the verse “Those who do not believe are the friends and protectors of one another. If you do not act in this way there will be turmoil in the land and great corruption” (Surat al-Anfal, 73). In that verse our Lord tells us that if believers fail to join forces and act as one another’s friends and guardians, then corruption will grow. For that reason, believers know that if they lose their solidarity because of pressure from those who organise evil and allow their intellectual struggle to be harmed, then the climate of corruption on earth will spread. They therefore act as one in their determination to prevent the oppression and wickedness manifested by people who have lost all positive qualities, all their compassion and all their spiritual values. They make enormous efforts to ensure that goodness and beauty will prevail on Earth, rather than wickedness.

Acting as one for the sake of Allah’s approval is a significant secret of faith that allows believers to succeed in the face of difficulties. When we look at the problems have faced by Muslims during the course of history we see that they have all managed to overcome troubles and difficulties in that way. Muslims, the Prophet Muhammed (saws) whom Allah has made a role model for all humanity, and his companions in particular, have always abided by these religious virtues and been a means, with their superior solidarity and devotion, whereby Islam and the Qur’an have spread to the entire world.

4. They Have a Profound Belief in the Reality of Destiny
Believers are well aware that everything in life happens by the will of Allah and at His command, and within the destiny appointed by Him. As emphasised in the verse “Say: ‘nothing can happen to us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is Our Master. It is in Allah that the believers should put their trust’,” (Surat at-Tawba, 51) they are aware that Allah creates all things, no matter what they may be.
For that reason, these worthy individuals never regard any event that befalls them as “bad,” and they are never worried or distressed by anything that happens to them. They know that although some events may look bad, they will actually have auspicious consequences for them. Because if Allah has visited an event on a believer, then it will necessarily be auspicious. The history of Islam is full of concrete examples of this. The best of these are the lives of the Companions and the events befalling the prophets and those around them as described in the Qur’an. In one verse Allah, the infinitely merciful, says: “It may be that you hate something when it is good for you and it may be that you love something when it is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know” (Surat al-Baqara, 216).
5. They Are Determined to Strive on Allah’s Path
One of the reasons for the powerful solidarity among believers is their determination to seek the approval of Allah. By His leave, no difficulty can prevent believers, whose sole aim is to earn Allah’s approval, obeying His commands. For that reason, no matter what pressure they may be subjected to from those around them or those who are unwilling to see the spread of religious moral values they still persist in that determination throughout the course of their intellectual struggle against systems that propagate atheism. By Allah’s will, they will continue to perform their duties as His servants with ever increasing enthusiasm and determination throughout the course of their lives and will bind themselves ever tighter to Allah’s path and to their Muslim brethren. Since they know that Allah is the creator of all things they evaluate whatever befalls them in a spirit of joy and enthusiasm and compete with one another to do good deeds. Because, as is revealed in the Qur’an in the words “Among the believers, there are men who have been true to the contract they made with Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their pact by death and some are still waiting to do so, not having changed in any way at all,” (Surat al-Ahzab, 23) they maintain the same determination to earn Allah’s approval right up to the moment of their deaths.
Why Are There No Other Examples of the Solidarity among Believers?
A mindset that enjoys being together with other believers, that loves to honour and enthuse them, that delights in altruism and that seeks more for others than for itself, will of course be very different to one based on worldly expectations.
The most important element that distinguishes this Muslim solidarity from all other forms of solidarity is that believers enjoy a great strength stemming from the fact they love one another for Allah’s sake. As we are told in another verse, “… those who were sure that they were going to meet Allah said, ‘How many a small force has triumphed over a much greater one by Allah’s permission! Allah is with the steadfast” (Surat al-Baqara, 249), by virtue of the faith in their hearts believers possess the will and enthusiasm necessary to overcome great troubles and difficulties. Because of the excellent moral values they exhibit, they earn the help and support of Allah. As He reveals in another verse “Do not give up and do not be downhearted. You shall be uppermost if you are believers” (Surah al-Imran, 139) they possess a spiritual strength that nobody can overcome, and nobody can turn them against one another.

Non-believers will continue to slander believers, and to inflict pressure and even cruelty on them, in the future just as they have always done in the past. But, again in the future as in the past, their slanderous and false words will never distress or harm the faithful.

CONCLUSION:
By Allah’s Will, the Solidarity among Muslims Will Lead to the Moral Values of the Qur’an Ruling the World
We are living in a time when the world has the perhaps the greatest need for peace, friendship and brotherhood. The conflicts that left their mark on the 20th century are continuing at full speed in the new century, and innocent people all over the world are suffering material and spiritual losses because of this climate of conflict and chaos. It is therefore of the greatest importance that believers should today act as one, continue with the intellectual struggle they are waging on Allah’s path despite all the obstacles placed in their way, and increase their determination by seeking refuge in Allah in the face of all the difficulties they encounter. This is the moral virtue commanded by the Qur’an and the Prophet (pbuh). As a result of this great ideological struggle all the troubles afflicting mankind will, by Allah’s leave, come to an end and everyone, not just Muslims, will attain peace and happiness. Under the leadership of the holy personages of the End Times, the blessed Mahdi and the Prophet ‘Isa (as), Muslims will constitute a role model for the whole world with their brotherhood and solidarity, like the walls of a building, and there will thus be nowhere in the world where people do not live according to the moral beauty of the Qur’an. This is Allah’s promise and, by His leave, the time when it will be made a reality is fast approaching: “It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of Truth to exalt it over every other religion, though the associators hate it.” (Surat as-Saff, 9)

From an interview with Adnan Oktar for Haber5.com in May, 2008…
“ They seek to achieve results by conspiring, slandering and plotting. But Muslims are even more positively affected by these. The more they are attacked and oppressed, the greater their enthusiasm and strength. Because a kind of numbness emerges in the absence of pressure. One feels sleepy, for instance, when it is warm. Especially if one has no aim or purpose. But an unexpected movement, sudden rain, the opening of a window or the arrival of important news immediately wakes the individual up. That is the kind of awakening Muslims need. It has the effect of an adrenaline rush. All the pressure, cruelty or troubles inflicted on them merely make them stronger. The alternative is lethargy and apathy.”

The Alliance of the Unbelievers Is Doomed to Fall Apart
The importance attached to worldly interests and expectations of worldly gain lie at the heart of the solidarity among those who do not believe in Allah and the hereafter and who seek to damage believers’ intellectual struggle. These people have come together in an agreement based on mutual interests. However, as Allah reveals in a verse, “… Their hostility towards each other is intense. They are full of bravado in each other’s company. You consider them united but their hearts are scattered wide. That is because they are people who do not use their intellect” (Surat al-Hashr, 14), no matter how much unbelievers may seem to enjoy union and solidarity, they in fact possess no such thing. In the same way, therefore, that their solidarity falls apart at the first sign of difficulty, so the traps they set for those who preach religious moral values are also condemned to failure, by Allah’s will, right from the outset.

Advice to the Faithful from Bediüzzaman Said Nursi
"...Ally yourselves to your fellow workers and co-religionists of the people of this world in the brotherhood, dialogue and solidarity commanded by hundreds of verses and hadith of our Prophet (pbuh)..do not fall into dispute. Tell yourselves, “Let me not waste my valuable time on trivial matters, but let me spend my precious time on the names of Allah and on ideas,” and do not weaken the solidarity among you. Because a small problem may be greater than you think in this spiritual struggle.”

“Do those who plot evil actions feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them up or that a punishment will not come upon them from where they least expect? Or that He will not seize them on their travels, something they are powerless to prevent?” (Surat an-Nahl, 45-46).

THE GREAT IMPRESSION ISLAM HAS MADE ON FOREIGNERS

The Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of our Prophet (saas) are very important guides for believers.
The moral values revealed by our Lord in the Qur’an have attracted the interest of foreigners ever since the time of our Prophet (saas) right up to the present day, and have amazed people from all sections of society capable of honestly and conscientiously evaluating events.
Muslims’ Tolerance Inspired Astonishment
One of the most important features of people with faith in Almighty Allah (God) is their tolerance and compassion, a sign of their sincere belief. There is no doubt that this tolerance and love exhibited by Muslims as a requirement of Islamic moral values, has been the most important factor influencing non-Muslims at all times.
The examples observed in Islamic and Turkish history, in which the most just and humane attitude, even with regard to prisoners of war, compatible with Islamic moral values inspired the same powerful effect in non-Muslims. Independent observers who witnessed the attitude of Muslim Turks towards captives were heavily influenced by what they saw, and often felt the need to set down their thoughts and feelings. For example, Mouradgea D’Ohsson, who served for many years in the Swedish Embassy in Istanbul and whose book Tableau Général de l´Empire Ottoman (General Picture of the Ottoman Empire) is regarded as one of the most important descriptions of 18th century Ottoman life, summarized his thoughts in these words: “No nation in the world looks after and treats its prisoners, slaves and even galley slaves better than the Muslim Ottomans.”
It needs to be made clear here that the reason for the care and affection the Ottomans showed their prisoners was a consequence of their Islamic moral values. Almighty Allah has commanded Muslims to feed even their captives. This is just one proof of the excellent virtues that compliance with the Qur’an bestows on Muslims:

They (the believers) give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives. (Believers say,) ‘We feed you only out of desire for the Face of Allah (God). We do not want any repayment from you or any thanks.’ Truly We fear from our Lord a glowering, calamitous Day.’ (Surat al-Insan, 8-10)

Writers Who Expresses Their Admiration for Islamic Moral Values
Many writers who saw the toleration and justice in Qur’anic moral values often devoted space to examples of these virtues in their works. One such, the American William G. Wells, made the following comment in order to emphasize the mistaken way in which some circles in his day looked on Muslims:
The Quran teaches peaceful tolerance to the opponents of Islam.
Another foreign author who made wide observations on this subject is Gerard de Nerval, one of the best known figures in French literature. This French author, who was also a traveler and who described his observations to his readers, told them of his experiences during his visit to the Ottoman Empire. To de Nerval, the most surprising thing in Ottoman lands was the way that people from different nations and holding different religious beliefs lived as brothers in the Ottoman state with its multinational structure. He reported his observations thus: “Istanbul is a strange city. Four nations live there together and do not hate one another. The tolerance and indulgence that Turks, Armenians, Jews and Greeks living in the same place extend towards one another cannot even be seen among peoples living in various provinces or in political parties where we come from.”
Gerard de Nerval also witnessed a festival morning during his travels and was amazed at Muslims’ tolerance and the warm relations enjoyed by all sections of society, which he described as follows in his writings: “Most of the Europeans living in ‘Pera’ joined the throng. Because on festival days members of other faiths also join in Muslims’ celebrations and share them with them … Everyone is given food and drink once the sacrificial animal has been killed. In addition, everyone entered whichever house he chose and sat down and was served. All Muslims, rich and poor, offer food to the people coming their homes, no matter what their faith, race or social status…”
There can be no doubt that it is the moral values possessed by Muslims that amaze non-Muslims. The Qur’an, sent down to humanity as a guide by Allah, commands proper moral values. At the basis of these values lie concepts such as love, affection, tolerance, justice and compassion. Islam is the true faith, that manifests the infinite compassion and affection of Allah and that was sent down to offer people lives filled with peace and security. In the verses of the Qur’an, people are called to Islamic moral values as a model in which compassion, affection, tolerance and peace can be enjoyed on Earth. Full compliance with the moral virtues commanded by Allah in the Qur’an will be the only solution that can lead mankind to light and peace in our century.

Allah calls to the Abode of Peace and He guides whom He wills to a straight path. (Surah Yunus, 25)

BRITAIN'S 'SEPTEMBER 11'

Thursday, July 7, 2005, will be remembered all over the world as the date when a series of bomb attacks took place in the British capital, London. These barbaric attacks left behind them dozens of dead and hundreds of injured, and went down in history as causing terrible material and psychological damage.

The events in London were referred to as "Islamic terror," in a manner that deeply wounds the entire Islamic world. However, shedding the blood of innocent people, including women and children, by the use of such ruthless methods, cannot be accounted for in any religious terms. Even the term "Islamic terror" creates severe distress in the hearts of sincere believers, and lays blame on a community numbering more than 1 billion.

The events have absolutely nothing to do with the true Islam commanded by God in the Qur'an. There is no room for the concept of terror in true Islam. Violence is not permitted in any of the divine religions. When we look at the Qur'an, the sole source of Islam, and at the practices of all Muslim rulers throughout the history of the world, beginning with our Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace), we can see the truth of this in all clarity.

Terrorism is a terrible plague that has infected the world for hundreds of years. Even though actions may differ from country to country, all terrorist organizations aim at defenseless civilians and send their messages by way of these people.

In the terrorist attack in Oklahoma in the USA 167 people were savagely slaughtered, 19 of them children.

A fanatical Jew who opened a hail of fire on Muslims praying in a mosque in Palestine caused the deaths of 29 people.
Thousands of people have lost their lives in attacks against Muslims in India over the years.

Terrorist attacks both great and small have for years been perpetrated in France, Spain, the Philippines, Japan and Ireland.

One could go on. However, the entire world came face to face with terror in 2001. In the wake of the attacks against two major cities in the USA which led to the deaths and injuries of thousands of people, the concept of "terrorism" began to be debated once again. That was because that attack had been carried out at an unexpected time, against a country regarded as the world's only superpower, and in a totally unforeseen manner. The attack created an air of fear and panic all over the world, especially in America.

Following the attacks, the USA embarked on a major fight against terror. Many countries have lined up alongside America in this struggle, and lent their support to it. The series of bombings in Istanbul, just when it was thought that the forces of terror had been brought under control, again reminded people of terrorism's dark face: first synagogues, then the British Consulate, then the HSBC General Directorate building …

The Saturday prayer, which had been performed for centuries, was interrupted by the bombs exploded on November 15th. Twenty-four people were killed in the explosions at the Neva Shalom synagogue at Beyoglu Kuledibi and the Beth Israel synagogue at Sisli, and 300 were injured.
Dozens of more people lost their lives in the explosions at the British Consulate and the HSBC building, and hundreds were injured. Images similar to those which followed the September 11 attacks began appearing on our television screens. Ruined buildings, people fleeing in panic, burned out busses, corpses lying in the streets …

Following the events in Istanbul, terror began to strike at Europe. The first target was Spain, which played host to Muslims for hundreds of years. The bombs that exploded in three large train stations in Madrid caused the deaths of 199 people, and another 1,247 people to be injured. What remained after this terrorist act was dead bodies, the injured, and fear, anger and hatred that left all the Muslims of Europe under an accusation...

And now the bombs that exploded in the London Underground and busses, both means of public transport, a city full of the dead and injured…The point we wish to emphasize in this article is that Islam opposes terror attacks and the killing of the innocent. All forms of terrorist attack are roundly condemned in Islam. According to the Qur'an, it is a great sin to kill an innocent person, and anyone who does so will suffer great torment in the Hereafter:

… If someone kills another person-unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth-it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind. Our messengers came to them with clear signs, but even after that, many of them committed outrages in the earth. (Qur'an, 5:32)

This verse equals the killing of one innocent to slaughtering all of humanity. Another verse expresses the importance of human life:

Those who do not appeal to any other deity besides God [alone]; nor kill any soul whom God has forbidden [them to] except with the right to do so; nor fornicate. Anyone who does so will incur a penalty. (Qur'an, 25:68)

Any Muslim who believes in God with a sincere heart, who scrupulously abides by His verses and fears suffering in the Hereafter, will avoid harming even one other person. He knows that the Lord of Infinite Justice will suitably reward him for all his deeds. In one of the hadith, our Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) listed the kinds of people who are not pleasing to God:

"Those who act cruelly and unjustly in the sacred lands, those who yearn for the ways of the ignorant, and those who wrongly shed human blood." (Sahih Bukhari Hadith)

Terror Will Disappear When People Come to Live by the Moral Values of Islam

In the Qur'an (32:9), God reveals that He has breathed His Spirit into man, His creation, and that man is His representative on Earth (Qur'an, 6:165). One of the most important differences between man and the animals is that man was created with both earthly desires and with a conscience. Every person possesses desires that incite him to evil, along with a conscience that inspires him to avoid it. Alongside such pleasing moral attributes inspired by that conscience-love, sacrifice, compassion, humility, affection, honesty, loyalty and kindness-he also possesses destructive and undesirable tendencies, stemming from his earthly desires. Thanks to his conscience, however, the believer can distinguish between right and wrong and opt for what is morally right. Strong belief in and fear of God, faith in the Hereafter, powerful fear of the endless torments of Hell and a yearning for Paradise all keep the temptations of his earthly desires at bay. Therefore, he always behaves well towards people, is forgiving, responds to wickedness with good, assists those in need, and shows compassion, love, affection and tolerance.

Terrorists, on the other hand, listen to their earthly desire for violence instead of their consciences, and can easily turn to all forms of wickedness. They become loveless, aggressive people who easily hurt others without the slightest pang of conscience. Having no fear of God, they do not practice the morality of religion. Nothing can stop them from committing crimes.

In restraining its citizens, society's prevailing rules can go only so far. Thanks to its law enforcement units, the state may be able to partially protect streets and public spaces, and-thanks to a powerful system of justice-may be able to take necessary means to ensure public order and ensure that the crime rate drops. But since it's impossible to keep watch on every individual, 24 hours a day, it's essential that people act by their conscience. Someone who doesn't heed the voice of his conscience can easily turn to crime when on his own, or surrounded by people of like mind. That being the case, a model of society emerges which is composed of individuals who lie when necessary, have no hesitation about making unjust profits, and feel no unease about oppressing the weak. It is clear that physical precautions and measures will bear no fruit in a society which has no fear of God and which has lost its spiritual values. Religious moral values, on the other hand, command a person to refrain from evil, even if he is all alone, even if nobody will punish him for his evil deeds. It is evident that a person who knows that he will be called to account in the presence of God for his every deed, his every decision and his every word, and that he will be suitably rewarded for these in the eternal life of the Hereafter, will scrupulously avoid committing evil.

Terrorist organizations can't possibly have any place in a society whose people avoid evil of their own free will. Where religion's morality prevails, problems that give rise to organizations supporting the use of violence will disappear naturally. If the whole society possesses superior virtues like honesty, sacrifice, love and justice, there can be no place for such things as poverty, unequal distribution of income, injustice, the oppression of the weak, or limitations on freedoms. On the contrary, a social order will emerge that meets the wants of the needy; where the wealthy protect the poor and the strong, the weak; where everyone can enjoy the very best health care, education, and transport systems. There, tolerance and understanding will dominate the relationships between different ethnic groups, religions and cultures.

For these reasons, proper morality is the key to solving so many social problems. The source of that key, in turn, is the Qur'an, which God has revealed as a guide for mankind.

It must not be forgotten that unless necessary measures are taken, unless deep-rooted solutions are brought in, the 21st century will continue to be a time of terror and violence, just as the 20th was before it. The homes of innocent people will be bombed, and women and children will be slaughtered. The intellectual fight against terrorism, therefore, must be started with great urgency, to include very great numbers of people.
This fight will be fought on the level of ideas-between people who believe in God, who are loving, forgiving, compassionate and in full possession of their conscience; and those terrorists who draw their strength from ignorance and violence. In one verse, our Lord reveals,
"Why were there not people with good sense among the generations of those who came before you, who forbade corruption in the earth…" (Qur'an, 11:116). Believers should possess the good sense that God describes in the verses. While terrorists hope to achieve their aims by violence, believers know that true success can be achieved only by clinging tightly to the religion of God, and acting accordingly. Jews, Christians, and Muslims will join together in that struggle, in a spirit of respect for all beliefs and ideas and, by the will of God, enjoy definitive success. This is God's promise to all His believing servants, which will definitely come true.

At this point, a great responsibility falls on all true believers, no matter what their religion. Jews must not ignore Old Testament statements calling mankind to peace and tolerance, and they must call on all other Jews to oppose terrorism. So should Christians call on all other Christians, taking as their guide the morality most pleasing to God. One should not forget that terrorism stems from wrong ideas and the basic struggle against terrorism should be on the level of ideas. Believers must explain that these ideas are wrong, and that no idea can prevail by means of violence, oppression and cruelty; and despotism can never bring about beauty.

Terrorist ideology is built on sand. Its foundations can easily be swept away by mobilizing a proper education campaign. Sincere believers in all parts of the world can help end the ignorance that breeds terrorism by searching for solutions, writing books and articles, promoting educational activities and disseminating their own cultural heritage. The prevalence of tolerance, peace and security on the Earth, as commanded by God, will make terrorism disappear into the pages of history forever. Adopting a defeatist, pessimistic attitude in the face of terror is unacceptable. Our hope is that this suffering will not be repeated, and that all measures will be adopted to that end.

May God have mercy on those who died in those hateful attacks, and may He heal the injured. Our sincere condolences to all mankind. (For detailed information, please see Islam Denounces Terrorism and Only Love Can Defeat Terrorism by Harun Yahya)

HOW ISLAMIC UNION WILL AFFECT THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Contemporary world politics make it necessary for nations to integrate into international unions in the interest of their own national security and economy. In these international unions, which are usually based upon geographic location, such factors as natural resources, trading blocs, and even cultural values play an important role. Many neighboring countries combine their resources under the auspices of such organizations, create defensive alliances, and cooperate on a wide array of issues. The goal of such unions is to preserve peace, control the arms race, resolve disputes through diplomacy, promote socioeconomic development, and protect fundamental human rights and democracy. At the present time, NATO, the OSCE, the EU, NAFTA, OPEC, ASEAN, the G-8, the D-8, and APEC are the foremost international political, military, and economic unions.
These institutions are subject to organizational reforms because of new members or a widening of scope. All of these organizations, formed in the aftermath of the Second World War, have contributed to creating stability and order in the world and have played a major role in global socioeconomic development. Member nations protect their economic and military interests, and also acquire a stronger regional and international position. Even the developed world perceives the necessity of such partnerships. The creation of free trade zones, regional trade agreements, abolished customs controls, and even a common currency (as in the EU) safeguard the future of member states. Defensive pacts enable member states to reduce military expenditures and to divert those resources to cultural and educational fields.

A similar organization will provide considerable benefits to Muslim nations. For those that are desperate for technological as well as economic development, the foremost step toward stability is the creation of a central organization or, in other words, a unified Islamic world under the auspices of the Islamic Union.

            Economic Development and Increasing Prosperity

Economic cooperation is necessary on two counts: stability and development. Muslim nations must bring stability and solidity to their economies. Developing industries and making the required investments is vital, as is the need for a comprehensive development plan and the simultaneous development of education, economy, culture, science, and technology. While various sectors are developed technologically, the labor force's educational levels and standards must be raised accordingly. Society must be motivated to become more productive, and the resulting economic cooperation will play a major role in eradicating poverty, illiteracy, the unjust distribution of wealth, and other socioeconomic problems rampant in Muslim countries. This partnership can be formed only by the creation of free trade zones, customs unions, and common economic areas.

Most Muslim countries have geostrategic importance as well as rich natural resources (e.g., natural gas and crude oil). These resources and strategic opportunities, however, are not being used effectively. In the Islamic world, 86% of the population's living standards fall below $2,000, 76% under $1,000, and 67% under $500 per year. When the Islamic world's total resources are considered,(1) this is quite a paradox: Roughly half of the petrol consumed in the West is exported from the Islamic world, as is 40% of the world's agricultural production.(2) Many economists and strategists freely admit that the world economy depends upon the Islamic world's oil and gas exports, in particular those of the Persian Gulf.(3)

The Persian Gulf holds two-thirds of the planet's discovered crude oil reserves. Data obtained from research concludes that Saudi Arabia alone holds 25.4% of the world's oil reserves, or 262 billion barrels. A further 11% is found in Iraq, 9.6 % in the UAE, 9.2 % in Kuwait, 8.6 % in Iran, 13% in other OPEC member states. The rest is distributed across the remainder of the world.(4) Research commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy shows that between 2000 and 2020, oil exports from the area will increase by 125%.(5) This means that the world will continue to meet most of its energy needs by imports from the Gulf region. Moreover, the Middle East has 40% of the global natural gas reserves; 35 % of these reserves are in the Gulf region.(6) Algeria, Libya, and other North African countries have 3.7 % of the world's reserves.

The Caucasus and Central Asia are also rich in oil, natural gas, and other natural resources. For instance, Kazakhstan has between 10-17.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, and its natural gas reserves are estimated at between 53 and 83 trillion cubic feet.
Turkmenistan hasbetween 98 and 155 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, making it the fourth largest producer.(7) Some other Muslim countries have valuable mineral resources. For instance, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are two of the world's leading gold producers. Turkey has one of the world's richest boron reserves, only recently discovered to be very important, and Tajikistan has the world's largest aluminum producing facilities.

These advantages will become more important in the twenty-first century, which some have already christened the "energy century." Energy is an essential element of modern society in terms of the military, industry, urbanization, and transport. Given that economic activity and manufacturing depend primarily upon energy, nations will do their best to achieve control over these energy resources. The Islamic world is not using its resources effectively, for many of its members lack the infrastructure and technology to increase the production and use their natural resources to develop their industries. Therefore, the resources' contributions to the country's economy are limited to export earnings. These countries do not have the means to process their own crude oil, use it in their industrial complexes, or to develop their industries. Worse still, some Muslim nations do not even have the necessary means to explore and research their natural resources or to discover and extract them. Explorations undertaken by foreign companies reveal that other Muslim nations have oil and gas reserves, but they cannot benefit from their resources.

Naturally, the ineffective use of natural resources is not the Islamic world's only economic problem. However, solving this problem can begin the process of solving many other problems. The economies of Muslim nations contain differences in structure and functioning. Some nations' economies depend upon mineral resources, such as the members of OPEC, while other nations' depend upon agriculture. These differences are also reflected, to some extent, in their social structures, such as the widely varying degrees of rural and urban populations. Developing complementary relationships and helping each other in their respective areas of expertise can turn these differences into a source of riches. All of this will be possible with the Islamic Union.

Joint ventures and project partnerships will be an important step in the right direction, for they will enable countries to benefit from one another's experiences and the income earned from investment projects will benefit all of the participating countries. Such mutual financial support is compatible with Islamic morality, for helping the needy and having a sense of social responsibility are important characteristics that Muslims strive to acquire. Many verses in the Qur’an remind Muslims to watch over the needy.

Society's internal cohesion must be extended to international relations. As international cooperation within a partnership cannot be one-sided, employment and income levels will rise in both countries. For example, one country will produce oil and another one will process it, and agriculturally dependent countries will be able to import the food they need from agriculturally developed countries. A manpower-poor country’s need will be met by another Islamic country, while rich countries will be able to invest in and help out a manpower-rich country that does not have enough jobs for its people. This will be to the benefit of both. Sharing know-how and experience will increase prosperity, and all Muslims will benefit from technological developments.

Joint ventures that realize the Islamic world's unification of opportunities and means will enable Muslims to produce hi-tech products. The Islamic common market will enable Muslim-made products to be marketed in other Muslim countries without the hindrance of customs, quotas, and other cross-border obstacles. The marketplace will grow, the market share and exports of all Muslim nations will rise, industrialization will speed up, and economic development will bring progress in technology. The living standards and wealth of Muslim nations will increase, and their existing inequalities will disappear. Some free trade agreements are already in place between countries in the Gulf, the Pacific Rim, and North Africa. Trade agreements signed by Turkey are already operational in the Islamic world. Bilateral cooperation exists in some regions; however, their scope must be widened. Such cooperation will safeguard the rights and interests of all Muslim nations and lead to all of them becoming developed—a result from which all of them will derive a far greater benefit than if they do not cooperate with each other.

All of these can be realized only under a central authority's leadership and coordination. Achieving this will be possible if Muslim nations adopt the Qur'an's values and the Prophet's (May God bless him and grant him peace) Sunnah, or, in other words, if they adopt Islamic culture. The Islamic Union must lead the way to this cultural awakening, as well as the resulting political and economic cooperation.

Mutual cooperation among Muslims, part of the Islamic code, must be adhered to by all Muslims, for God commands people to refrain from avarice and to guard the needy and support one another. In fact, destitute people have a due share of the believers' wealth (Qur'an, 51:19). As the Qur'an proclaims:

Those of you possessing affluence and ample wealth should not make oaths that they will not give to their relatives, the very poor, and those who have migrated in the way of God. Rather, they should pardon and overlook. Would you not love God to forgive you? God is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qur'an, 24:22)

He who has plenty should spend from his plenty, but he whose provision is restricted should spend from what God has given him. God does not demand from anyone more than He has given it. God will appoint ease after difficulty. (Qur'an, 65:7)

Our Lord also reveals that believers are one another's guardians (Qur'an, 9:71). The word "guardian" conveys such meanings as friend, helper, mentor, and protector. It also expresses the importance of cooperation and solidarity between Muslim nations. The cooperation that will arise from this fraternal awareness between Muslim nations will bring prosperity and wealth to Muslims and eradicate poverty, an important problem of the Islamic world. Societies that follow the Qur'an's values will not experience famine, destitution, and poverty. Muslims will develop their nations by following rational and long-term policies, establishing good relations with other nations and people, valuing trade and development, and learning from other cultures' experiences. This was so in history and, God willing, under the Islamic Union's leadership it will be so once again.

HOW PURPOSELESSNESS AFFECTS THE SOCIETY

In our day, people seriously lack a purpose in life. Almost everyone adopts a standard way of living. To feed one's self, to find a house in which to reside, to set up a family, and to have a job are the praised values to which one mostly aspires. In this standard way of living, the most important goal in life is to find ways to make a better living and to raise children.

For a better understanding of the purposelessness and meaninglessness permeating the lives of our society, it will be useful to look at other areas of interest apart from the aforementioned. The majority of people have a rather limited outlook. Often, not missing a TV series or watching a popular movie is what gives their daily life a meaning. For such people, a better goal in life, if any, might be to belong to a social club.

Another group of people's minds are totally preoccupied with business. All through their lives, they commute between office and home. A person starting his career in his early 20s does the same job for almost 40 years. Meanwhile, he often finds himself waiting for Fridays. His main ambitions amount to closing the tax month without problems, managing to find the rent every month, and to securing his children's future. Hardly any national or world events excite him. Only that which affects his business makes any sense to him. Never pondering over events, he readily accepts the status quo. He feels concerned only when issues challenge his business. To voice his concerns, he participates in discussion programmes on TV or talks until the early hours of the morning, arriving at no substantial solution or conclusion.
The next day, he starts a new day the same as the previous one.

Young people, too, suffer from the same purposelessness, and lack the essential factors that give life meaning. The vast majority of teenagers do not even know the leaders of their country, the political decisions they make, the impact of these decisions on national defence, the economy, or the educational and judiciary systems. Utterly oblivious of major events and developments in the world, they constantly fret over trivial and futile issues. That leaves them deprived of the skills to conceive the significance of many events of world history. Their conversations are often limited to computer games, Internet chats, dating, trivial events happening at school, cheating in exams, plans for the weekend, clothes or football games. In magazine surveys which ask teenagers to rank "the greatest goals worth pursuing in life", looking like a famous model or playing the guitar like the guitarist of a famous band come first.

Having no purpose in life and being oblivious of other realms of existence is a threat to humanity. However, over and above this, that among people who assume a particular stance in life, the majority advocate views which lack real values and are detrimental towards humanity, poses the real threat. That is because the leaders and advocates of dangerous ideas find masses to hand who are utterly bereft of faculties with which to discern danger, and who thus accept any presupposition without subjecting it to independent scrutiny.

In a verse Allah refers to the purposelessness of people thus:

Leave them to eat and enjoy themselves. Let false hope divert them. They will soon know. (Surat al-Hijr: 3)

There are surely ways for mankind to avoid such a situation: ensuring that they do not become persons who are only interested in leading their own lives and living to meet their needs. To this end, these people should be encouraged to become individuals whose target is to serve other people and deal, not merely with their own problems or of their individual countries but also, with the problems of the world. The religion Allah has chosen for people and revealed in the Qur'an shows this ultimate aim:

So, set your face firmly towards the Deen, as a pure natural believer, Allah's natural pattern on which He made mankind. There is no changing Allah's creation. That is the true Deen– but most people do not know it. (Surat ar-Rum: 30)

It is essential we tell aimless idle people that this world is created for a significant purpose. In the Qur'an, Allah informs us of His purpose in creating man: "I only created jinn and man to worship Me."(Surat adh-Dhariyat: 56)

Everyone will die one day. Then his real and eternal life will begin. The purpose of this life is to strive to be a person of whom Allah approves and whom He will host in His Garden. The conduct, ideals, and beliefs of every man will determine whether he will spend his eternal life in the hereafter in the Fire or in the Garden. For this reason, that these people mindlessly spend time on idle and worthless jobs, devoting their lives to them and behaving as if their existence on earth has no purpose, shows that these people must urgently be warned and awakened from the heedlessness in which they live.

Being aware that our purpose in the world is to earn Allah's approval, favour and the Garden, we cannot remain indifferent or insensitive to any event taking place around us. We know that every event is an opportunity to earn Allah's approval, and thus we will always act accordingly. We feel pangs of conscience whenever we witness injustice or oppression taking place in our vicinity or in the world. For instance, we feel the responsibility of each homeless boy, who lives in difficulty, and has to spend his life on the streets in the cold winter. Complying with the command of Allah in the verse, "So, as for orphans, do not oppress them, and as for beggars, do not berate them." (Surat ad-Duha: 9-10), we will treat them kindly. We will strive to find a way to save them from the unfavourable circumstances in which they live. Yet, we are aware that these children cannot be saved by our efforts or those of a few people behaving in compliance with the Qur'an. For this reason, we will strive for the values of the Qur'an and the Sunnah to be spread among all people.

THE IMPACT OF DISBELIEF ON ECONOMY

Economy occupies most of our daily talk. In rich and poor countries alike, few communities are immune from escalating economic problems. The majority of people in the world live on the breadline while many countries depend on foreign 'aid' for survival. Receiving foreign 'aid' adds more to their problems, since, unable to pay even the interest, these countries face great hardship.

From health to education, all issues are kept moving by means of finance. However, whether developed countries or not, economic conditions hit people hard. Wealth, extravagance and their natural consequence, degradation, sit next to impoverishment. Unable to meet their essential needs, people fight with each other. Many reports and studies, programmes for improvement, and seminars to raise awareness of the issue flounder for want of viable solutions and the fact remains that, each day adds to the despair and misery of much of the world.

Unemployment is a major global problem. Even if people are employed, their wages are not sufficient to secure good living conditions. Even so, hundreds of candidates apply for a few vacancies in public service, which will bring a rather moderate income. People wait in queues for hours in front of unemployment offices in the hope of finding a job.

What is the solution, then? Why do measures fail to eradicate these problems?

In any country, economic development, productivity, flourishing job opportunities, and a productive workforce are essential to maintain economic stability. Yet, statistics indicate that there are almost 820 million unemployed around the world. When we add the number of dependants to this figure, the dimensions of the problem become even more serious.

In our day, economic systems, especially in underdeveloped countries, rely on bank interest. The high interest rates offered to depositors by banks have a destructive impact on national economies. This becomes the main reason why people put their money in banks rather than investing or using it productively. The wealthy find it easier to live on the interest they receive rather than working and in a society where most people do not work it is unlikely to boost investment, which is essential for the improvement of the country.

In such systems, newspapers carry bank advertisements giving the following message: "You can stop investing in your business and go on a holiday…" This rationale, albeit seemingly simple and attractive, brings devastation to a country rather than welfare and wealth. An economy that is not nurtured by investments is doomed to ruin. Money accumulated in bank accounts and safes is the main source of such economic problems as inflation. Those who do not contribute to the economy and who put their money in the bank and "go on a holiday" will themselves suffer the consequences in the long term. Their money resting in the bank will constantly lose value since, in the course of time, it will not keep up with the rising rate of inflation.

In an economy resting on production, an overall recovery occurs which benefits everyone. Indeed, Allah commands us to spend our money for the benefit of people. In Surat at-Tawba, Allah gives the news of a painful punishment for those who amass their possessions:

You who believe! Many of the rabbis and monks devour people's property under false pretences and bar people from access to the Way of Allah. As for those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend it in the Way of Allah, give them the news of a painful punishment… (Surat at-Tawba: 34)
In a society where the Qur'anic principles are applied, practices which are essentially to the benefit of people keep the system moving. Thus, Allah prohibits usury and thus prevents people suffering under the burden of debts:

Those who practise usury will not rise from the grave except as someone driven mad by Satan's touch. That is because they say, 'Trade is the same as usury.' But Allah has permitted trade and He has forbidden usury. Whoever is given a warning by his Lord and then desists, can keep what he received in the past and his affair is Allah's concern. But all who return to it will be the Companions of the Fire, remaining in it timelessly, for ever. (Surat al-Baqara: 275)
In another verse, Allah stressed that usury does not bring prosperity to man:

Allah obliterates usury but makes charity grow in value! Allah does not love any persistently ungrateful wrongdoer. (Surat al-Baqara: 276)
To improve living standards, stability and order are essential in all domains of social life. This also holds true for the economy. Believers are those who should assume the responsibility of providing solutions. In this respect, nobody has the time to lose waiting for others to take the initiative. That is because Allah gave this responsibility to every believer. To fulfil it, one primarily needs to communicate the religion and the blessings that the religion adds to one's life.

The members of a community having a sincere faith that possessions, unlike usury, spent for the good of people will bring prosperity, will spend the part of their possessions they do not need for a good cause without hesitation. The benefits of such a system are evident to society. However, people should not see such a system as unattainable. The way to prevent this is to teach people the Qur'an.

It is also important to stress that, in the type of social life that is guided by the Qur'an and the Sunnah people strive not only for their own welfare, but for the welfare of the public since the values of Islam demand co-operation, solidarity and unity.

Being prohibited by Allah from doing so, people do not violate one another's rights. No one tries to unlawfully take others' possessions or rights. No one commits fraud in measuring and weighing. In a society living by the Qur'an, injustice is never allowed. Consequently, usury-ridden relations end. The wealthy do not rip off the poor and people do not attempt unlawfully to take other's portions.

In a society where religious values apply, nothing is wasted. People consume but avoid extravagance. Co-operation and justice maintain better living standards and welfare. The Blessed Period of the first community of Islam, an age of welfare when people in general adhered to the Qur'an and the Sunnah, is an explicit example of this fact.
